Easter Long Weekend: 4 Last-Minute Road Trips from Bengaluru

For Bengaluru travelers looking to escape the city during the Easter long weekend, Chickmagalur, Mysore, Sakleshpur, and Coorg offer the best last-minute road trip options, each accessible within 3 to 6 hours of driving. Having tracked Bengaluru’s urban transit trends for years and authored over 9,000 articles on travel, I have found that while early booking is always ideal, these four Karnataka gems remain resilient and enjoyable for spontaneous planners.

1. Chickmagalur: The Coffee Capital

In my experience, a quick 4.5-hour drive covering 242 km via NH75 is the perfect escape. The route takes you through the beautiful Karnataka countryside via Kunigal, Hassan, and Belur. To make the most of this trip, I recommend dedicating at least two days. While exploring Mullayanagiri peak (the highest in Karnataka) is a must, I suggest prioritizing Baba Budangiri, Hebbe Falls, and Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary for a diverse mix of trekking and serenity among the coffee plantations.

2. Mysore: The Regal Route

If you want to minimize travel time, Mysore is just a 3-hour drive from Bengaluru. Even if you haven't booked a cab, this route offers the best KSRTC and Indian Railway connectivity in Karnataka. I suggest timing your trip to arrive in the afternoon, visiting the famous Chamundi Hills and Mysore Zoo, and then witnessing the spectacular lighting of the Mysore Palace at night, followed by exploring the vibrant night markets.

3. Sakleshpur: The Budget Ooty

For those looking for a budget-friendly hill station, Sakleshpur is 220 km away via NH75 and often overlooked. Known as the "Ooty for the Poor," it takes about 5 hours from Bengaluru. In my expert analysis, the highlight here isn't just the tea gardens, but the historic Manjarabad Fort—a unique star-shaped structure offering amazing views of the Western Ghats—and Bisle View Point. It's an excellent choice for a raw, natural experience.

4. Coorg: The Scotland of India

Coorg is the furthest option, requiring about 6 hours for the 250 km journey via NH275. However, the drive itself, passing through Ramanagara and Mandya, is quite scenic. While Coorg has enough sights for a week, for a weekend trip, I recommend prioritizing Abbey Falls, Mandalpatti Peak for stunning views, and Raja's Seat for an iconic sunset. If you can, a stop at Bylakuppe's Namdroling Monastery on the way back is essential.
